Essiac Dosage for Pets
Adult Dosage Recommendations
Your Essiac dosage may vary depending on the condition of your health. Those with cancer are advised to take the aggressive dose, although many people in optimal health also use the aggressive dose. There are no known harmful effects in doing so.
For optimal effects, make every effort to take all doses on an empty stomach (2 hours before or 1 hour after meals). If that is not possible, it is still beneficial to take it instead of skipping the dose. Essiac tea is abundant in many minerals and is a healthy part of the daily diet.
The length of time you should remain on Essiac is a personal decision. At 8herb-essiac.com, our staff chooses to stay on Essiac at all times to maintain good health, and we encourage our friends and family to do the same. Essiac can be taken indefinitely. Many people choose to continue the maintenance or preventive dose indefinitely to maintain their good health.
Note: The suggested dosages are measured in ounces of brewed tea.
- Aggressive Dose - Recommended if you are trying to improve your health. This dosage is 3 ounces, 3 times per day. You should remain on the aggressive dosage program for a minimum of five months, or until your test results return to normal. You may then reduce your dosage to the maintenance dosage of 3 ounces once per day. It is recommended that you return to the aggressive dosage of 9 ounces per day if at any point your symptoms reoccur.
- Aggressive PLUS Dose - Recommended if you are currently on a regimen of chemotherapy and/or radiation, or you have been given a terminal diagnosis. This dosage is 6 ounces, 3 times per day. Essiac can be taken during traditional cancer treatments without interfering with that treatment. Chemo and radiation can destroy some of the active properties of the Essiac tea. Taking "extra" tea to compensate for this acts as insurance that the Essiac you're taking will be able to do its work in your body. The 18 oz per day has given good results to people on chemo and radiation. Some decide to stay with just 9 oz. per day, and many have also had good results. Along with the help of your practitioner, you will have to decide whether you'd like to experiment with taking the Essiac Tea Aggressive PLUS Dose (18 oz. per day).
- Maintenance Dose or Preventive Dose - Recommended for at least six months AFTER your test results have returned to normal. This does is 3 ounces, 1-2 times per day, depending on body weight.

Note: These recommendations are greater than the dosages Rene Caisse used for pets and are not backed by clinical studies. Best results have been seen with pets who had a much larger dose than Rene's recommended doses. These dosages can still be increased to give your pet the best chance of improved health. Follow at your own risk and discretion.
A potential problem with large doses for pets is the amount of rhubarb the animal will be consuming. Rhubarb has a laxative effect (which is one of the reasons it is in the essiac formula). Most pets have shorter digestive systems than humans, and will be more susceptible to diarrhea. The recommendation that a large dose of essiac be taken must be balanced against the downside of your pet suffering with diarrhea. You should start with the conservative dose and increase it as the pet shows no sign of a problem. Through experimentation, you will find the level of essiac dosage that works best for your pet.
Some pets will take essiac with no problem, while others will resist taking it. If necessary, mixing it with food may help. Although, this approach is not taking it on an empty stomach, it will still benefit the animal. In more desperate situations, feeding with a syringe may be necessary and helpful.
